Non-flushable wipes and other products
Baby wipes, cleaning wipes and other non-flushable products can block sewers and cost customers and water and sewerage companies millions of pounds a year in cleaning and repairs.
The Water UK SNAP (Sewer Network Action Programme) has initiated a series of meetings with retailers, manufacturers and the water industry to consider whether there are actions we can take together to make sure wipes go in the bin, and not down the loo.
Water UK has started two streams of work:
- joint action that could be taken help customers understand what can and can't be flushed, for example with labelling and awareness campaigns; and
- joint standards for future products.
