Water companies maintain high standards for developers

The water industry is continuing to play its part in the delivery of new homes in the UK by maintaining high standards of services to developers.

The overall numbers remain high, with performance for this quarter at 97% for water supply and 100% for sewerage services between September and December. These figures contribute to a yearly performance of 98% for water and 99% for sewerage across 2016-17, compared with 95% and 99% respectively for the corresponding period in 2015-16.

Although it is positive to see these levels of performance, the water industry recognises that the reporting system needs to be shown to be robust and Water UK has therefore commissioned an independent audit to review the level of consistency in reporting across the industry. The auditors’ report and any potential changes to current reporting requirements will be published this summer.

The reporting system is one of a number of initiatives that Water UK is engaged in with a view to supporting the government’s housing agenda by improving the delivery of infrastructure for new development.
