Water UK appoints new Chief Executive

Trade association Water UK has appointed Michael Roberts, currently Chief Executive of the Association of Train Operating Companies and Director-General of the Rail Delivery Group, as its next Chief Executive, succeeding Pamela Taylor, who is stepping down at the end of 2015.

Roberts previously held senior roles at the CBI working on policy development across a range of sectors including the environment, energy and transport. He has also served as a Non-Executive Director of the Carbon Trust.

Roberts said, "I am delighted to be joining a sector where the hard work of so many people makes such an essential contribution to our way of life.

"I very much look forward to engaging with a wide range of organisations on behalf of Water UK's members as this successful sector continues to evolve."

Roberts will take up the role no later than 1 January 2016, reporting to Chairman Sir Brian Bender.

Bender said: "The water industry is going through a period of significant change. Michael's experience in other trade associations, in working in regulated sectors and in policy development will be invaluable as our members and stakeholders adapt to increasing competition".
