More social tariffs in place
From this month, nearly all water companies will have tariffs in place to help customers who are struggling to pay, to reduce their bills.
There are now 14 of the 18 water companies with social tariffs and the other four companies intend to have them in place in 2016 or are already consulting their customers about a tariff scheme.
Social tariffs are just one way that companies provide help for customers. In 2015-16 water companies will provide a package of measures worth more than £40 million to support customers who are struggling to pay or in debt.
Companies aim to tailor their support to customers' needs as much as possible and to offer a wide range of help, for example through trust funds, debt matching and write-off schemes, debt advice and water efficiency measures to help customers on meters reduce their bills.
