Water UK has published its annual review for 2016/17.

Water companies in England and Wales perform better than their main European counterparts, according to a major new report.

Now in its 15th year, the Water UK Leakage Conference brings together the industry with regulators, government and key stakeholders to explore innovative leakage management in a changing and unpredictable climate. This year will build upon the challenges surrounding customers and communication as well as exploring operational and technical perspectives.

The average household water and sewerage bill in England and Wales for 2016-17 will be £389 – an increase of £2 (less than 1%) compared with the previous year. The increase is in line with the 5-year plans developed by every water and sewerage company after extensive consultation with customers and confirmed by the industry regulator, Ofwat, in 2014.

Water UK is working with The Royal Society of Medicine to develop the CPD accredited Water, Hydration and Health Conference on Tuesday 2 December in London. Bringing together health professionals, industry leaders, the regulator, government bodies and other stakeholders, the evidence-based programme will examine the importance of hydration and drinking water quality to the nation’s health.

The water industry has invested more than £116 billion since privatisation. This investment has underpinned the improvements to drinking water quality, made our rivers and beaches much cleaner and also secured regional growth and jobs. Water UK is holding its annual City Conference in March for investors, analysts, ratings agencies, City institutions regulators and government bodies, to discuss future finance and investment in the water sector.

Proper hydration is essential for our health and wellbeing, so it is vital that there is confidence in the quality of our drinking water.

Reports out today from the Environment Agency show that pollution incidents from water companies are falling while the quality of our water environment continues to rise.
